In addition to our regular programming, the Harbor Theater plans to work with the Boothbay Region School District to bring students into the movie theater in conjunction with classroom studies. For instance, coming up is “Rebel in the Rye,” the story of J.D. Salinger, author of “Catcher in the Rye.” The English teacher of the class reading that novel might use the movie as a learning tool for the students to understand the difficulties of becoming an author. History, social studies, English and foreign language classes could use the theater as a ‘classroom extension.’ As the theater is within walking distance of the school, educators may want to enhance the students’ learning experience through film. We are working on grants to fund such a program.
We also plan to revive the video project with the school, including an end-of-year Video Festival which would screen the top 10 videos, and from a panel of outside judges, award the popular “Golden Sea Gull Award” to the winner.
