Despite facing challenges at home and school, Akeelah’s passion for words leads her to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. With guidance from Dr. Joshua Larabee (Laurence Fishburne), a former spelling champion, and support from her community, Akeelah embarks on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment.
