In Zootopia 2, eager, rule-following bunny Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and streetwise fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), now officially rookie partners in the Zootopia Police Department, meddle in a high-stakes case that prompts Chief Bogo (Idris Elba) to order them to attend partner counseling. Worried that they’ll be separated, Judy becomes fixated on a mysterious clue: snakeskin found at a crime scene, even though snakes haven’t been seen in mammal-dominated Zootopia for decades. Defying orders, Judy and Nick pursue Gary (Ke Huy Quan), a snake who tries to steal a journal tied to the founding of Zootopia, only to end up getting mistaken for suspects themselves. As Nick and Judy, now on the lam, track Gary across the city’s different sectors, they uncover hidden secrets that point to long-standing fears and stereotypes about marine animals and reptiles.
Cleverly layering a thoughtful message onto another crackerjack caper while solidifying Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as one of the most endearing buddy pairings in ages, Zootopia 2 more than justifies a return trip to the big city. This delightful sequel deepens the themes explored in the first film while introducing new lovable characters and organic plotlines.
