eleanor the great (PG13)

1 hour, 38 minutes

Eleanor the Great is a heartfelt dramedy about grief, rediscovery, and the courage to start over—at any age.  After the death of her best friend, 70-year-old Eleanor Morgenstein (Sharon Stone) realizes she’s been living life in the shadow of others. Seeking change, she leaves her quiet routine in New York and heads to Naples, Florida, determined to reconnect with the world—and with herself. Along the way, she befriends an unlikely group of locals who help her rediscover joy, independence, and the power of second chances. Directed by Sophia Takal, the film blends humor and poignancy as it explores what it means to grow, heal, and embrace adventure well into life’s later chapters. Anchored by Sharon Stone’s moving performance, Eleanor the Great reminds us it’s never too late to become the person you were meant to be.

"The film allows [Squibb] a complexity rarely afforded to elderly characters. She radiates warmth in scenes with Kellyman, serving as a wise and witty grandmotherly figure, and exhibits sharp comedic timing when playing opposite Jessica Hecht.”
– Sonia Rao,
Washington Post
“The definition of truth, and the nature of grief, are explored through a salty, shrewd and satisfying performance from Squibb, who deserves and elevates all the roles that come her way.”
– Thelma Adams,
AARP Movies for Grownups
"Although Soderbergh’s approach has an artfulness to it; he’s telling a sweeping story while keeping the excitement mostly confined. The result, while self-contained, is gripping, quietly sexy, and robustly acted."
