JANE AUSTEN WRECKED
MY LIFE (R)

1 hour, 38 minutes

Jane Austen Wrecked My Life is a charming contemporary romance that blends literary nostalgia with fresh, French flair. Directed by Laura Piani and starring Camille Rutherford, the film follows Agathe Robinson—an aspiring writer stuck in a quiet life of routine at Shakespeare & Co. bookstore in Paris. Haunted by past trauma and paralyzed by self-doubt, Agathe yearns for the sweeping love stories she devours in books but struggles to write her own.

Unbeknownst to her, Agathe’s loyal best friend Felix (Pablo Pauly) submits her unfinished manuscript to the prestigious Jane Austen Residency in England—and she’s accepted. Faced with the opportunity of a lifetime, Agathe must summon the courage to step beyond her comfort zone.

In the English countryside, she’s greeted by Oliver (Charlie Anson, Downton Abbey), a literature professor and descendant of Austen herself. Though their first impressions clash, a slow-burning connection begins to grow. Just as sparks start to fly, Felix arrives unexpectedly, stirring up feelings that challenge Agathe’s heart—and her next chapter.

Witty, heartfelt, and full of romantic tension, Jane Austen Wrecked My Life is a love letter to second chances, personal courage, and the timeless magic of Austen-inspired storytelling.

“Far from postmodern cynicism, the film straddles the delicate terrain of a romantic comedy with a literary soul, capable of paying tribute to a legacy without completely falling into artifice or pastiche” – Javier Ocaña, El Pais

“Rutherford is an appealing heroine and the story is gently told, respectful of Agathe’s difficulty in recovering from trauma. While the romantic resolution is satisfying, it is not the solution, but rather a reflection of the courage and determination Agathe has relied on in addressing the issues that’s keeping her stuck. Miss Austen would approve.” – Nell Minow, The Movie Mom®
