THUNDERBOLTS* (PG13)

2 hours, 6 minutes

"Thunderbolts* is sincere and heartfelt; It also happens to be the most enjoyable Marvel adventure in some time….The action is clear and coherent; the character dynamics strike the right balance of earnest sincerity and glib humor. And it's oddly moving to see the characters put their bickering ways aside and team up to protect as many innocent bystanders as they can. For a brief moment, I was reminded of what made superhero movies fun in the first place, before they became Hollywood's dominant export."

“Thunderbolts succeeds. The film remembers that our love of superheroes doesn’t stem from what these overpowered beings can do but what these humans who become icons overcame to earn the title.”

Get ready for Marvel’s boldest—and most chaotic—team-up yet.

In Thunderbolts, a motley crew of misfit antiheroes is thrown together for a black-ops mission no Avenger would dare touch. Recruited by the morally murky CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), the team includes assassin-turned-reluctant-hero Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), the stoic Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), the scene-stealing Red Guardian (David Harbour), and the intense U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell)—each with their own baggage, secrets, and shaky sense of loyalty.

Yelena, still haunted by her past and the loss of her sister Natasha Romanoff, finds herself caught in a tangled web of lies. Assigned to stop a mysterious theft tied to “Project Sentry,” she quickly realizes Valentina has set her up. Betrayed and trapped in a remote lair, Yelena must band together with other discarded operatives: Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), a stealthy phaser with a haunted past; John Walker, a super-soldier with anger issues; and Bob (Lewis Pullman), a confused, seemingly powerless guy who just wants to go home.

As the group fights their way to freedom and uncovers Valentina’s true plan, they’re joined by more reluctant allies—including Bucky and Red Guardian. Together, they form an unlikely, unpredictable team: the Thunderbolts, named after a scrappy youth soccer team from Yelena’s past.

What follows is a gritty, darkly funny, action-packed mission where survival depends on trust—and trust is in short supply. Packed with emotional stakes, sharp humor, and Marvel-sized spectacle, Thunderbolts dives headfirst into the grayest corners of the MCU.

They’re not the Avengers. But they might be the only ones crazy enough to save the world.
